Creating a Bedroom POP UP for the Mr. & Mrs Smith Canada Launch

Last month I had the pleasure of designing the bedroom scene for the Canadian launch of Mr. & Mrs Smith held at The Spoke Club in Toronto. Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a U.K.-based boutique hotel booking and review website. The name acts as a tongue-and-cheek ‘code’ for unmarried couples checking into hotels. James and Tamara Lohan, the real life “Mr. & Mrs Smith”, started the company after they had had enough of booking into hotels not up to the average person’s standards. What started as travel guide turned into an online collection of high end boutique hotels across the world. The well traveled duo and their team have hand picked each hotel to ensure those staying receive the most memorable stay.

My task was to create a bedroom pop for the launch. Something sophisticated yet inviting that represented the Mr. & Mrs. Smith brand. Here are my before shots.. before the event got going and the sheets got ‘ruffled’…

The team at Mr. & Mrs Smith partnered with West Elm for the event, which made getting involved even more of a no-brainer for me! Below are some photos taken at the event. As you can see some Toronto celebs even turned out for the event!

Friday April 6th

Whether you are celebrating Easter or Passover this weekend I hope it’s a wonderful one!

Looking forward to sharing the details of an entire condo reno i’ll be starting on Monday, along with a pop up event I’m doing in conjunction with West Elm & Mr. & Mrs Smith and The Spoke Club.. oh and I’ll be finishing the rest of phase two of this project. I’ll be spending the weekend with my favorite gals pals, it’s just what I’ll need to kick start me into a busy next couple of weeks. Hope the bunny is good to you this weekend!

Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending the Arthur Mendonca show at Toronto Fashion Week. The show featured Arthur’s 2012 fall/winter line and as per usual, he did not disappoint. Sitting Pretty – Decorating a Library/Sitting Room

This library/sitting room was part of the Dream Decorating Project I talked about here. Not your typical floor plan, there were no solid walls to arrange furniture against. The one wall with a built-in window seat and the other a set of built-in bookcases. To make the most of the space I used four corner chairs to allow for traffic flow around the room. Cozy-ing up by the fire or curling up on the window seat in the morning sun with a good book never felt or looked so good!

Spring Has Sprung !

I’m not the only with a ‘spring’ in my step this week with the arrival of what feels like an early spring. Yesterday I spotted the first official sign. The greens of my tulips bulbs have started to poke there heads on my front lawn. A sure sign spring is on it’s way!

Wishful Wednesday – The Plaza Hotel NYC

These images of New York City’s Plaza Hotel have me longing for a little mid week luxury. The hotel has recently undergone a $450 million dollar renovation. The decor is traditional and grand. All the features one might expect to see in a hotel where The Great Gatsby was filmed in. Crystal chandeliers, gold plated fixtures, marble floors, elaborate flower arrangements and stained-glass ceilings. Sigh, now if I could just find a prince charming to whisk me over there for the day…

Mentionable Mondays -Design Crush Tilton Fenwick

I recently stumbled across a new design duo Tilton Fenwick, based out of NYC. They describe themselves as having an “appreciation for traditional aesthetic with a fresh perspective”, their interiors ‘embrace the unexpected in both color and pattern while always infusing comfort’. The images below are gorgeous examples of mixing rich colour and texture; note the wallpaper in the first two pictures and the grass cloth in the third. After just opening in 2010 the duo’s portfolio is chock O colour block full of eclectic, eye catching design!
