Just like interior design, fashion and food, ART is very subjective. Whether it’s in good taste or bad it’s in the eye of the beholder. Art is a key element in making a space come alive with character and personality. I’m of the school that the colours in one’s art should work with the rest of the interior where as some people strongly disagree with this adding that a strong contrast is what makes it so interesting.
When I start to work with a new client I develop an itemized budget for them. There are two columns ‘high’ and ‘low’. When it comes to art I leave a big TBD. Art is one of the only items in the budget I leave out because the price varies so much based on your taste.
I recently was referred to a very interesting online art source called Art Space. Art Space helps collectors and aspiring collectors learn and collect fine art. Their curators collaborate with top museums, galleries and cultural institutions to provide the best collection of contemporary art. They offer limited editions and original works from some very well known artists along with up and coming ones. The work is available online at affordable prices. Membership is free and grants all subscribers first access to their most coveted limited editions, enabling them to preview and collect these exclusive works before anyone else.
