January Newsletter: Our 2024 Design Predictions

The start of a new year can spur change for many of us. And while I'm not one for making resolutions or unattainable goals, I am interested in trying new habits in the hopes that it promotes positive change.

They say a habit takes 21 days to stick. This year I started doing my workouts before my daughter wakes up around 6 am versus after she goes to daycare. Although I always wake up before she does and accomplish things, my work-outs were procrastinated until post daycare drop off. The switch has made a huge impact on my motivation and structure.  Another habit I'm trying to stick to, no endless scrolling after my daughter goes to bed. I remove instagram from my phone for the evening, and mentally I am a better person for it.

Are you making any changes this year? Now that it's almost February perhaps they gone by the wayside already? If your aspirations extend to your home we're here to help. Although we pride ourselves on classic design and honouring personal style,  I think it's worth observing what we see more of and what consumers are gravitating towards this year.

2024 Design Trends

Jewel Tones

You will see much more experimentation with colour, along with the idea of saturating the entire space in one colour, the walls, trim and ceiling. Colours like Baked Cumin by Benjamin Moore, India Yellow, Deep Redish Brown by Farrow and Ball and Dulux's Purple Basil. Perhaps given our current environment there is more of a ‘you only live once’ attitude and playing it safe when it comes to colour, is becoming a thing of the past.

Tapestries

Going hand in hand with our jewel toned interiors, you're going to see alternatives to adorning your walls with just art. Specifically when it comes to large tapestries. Dating back to the ancient times they were once used as a decorative way to insulate stone walls. A converation starter of sorts, we think they are a beautiful way to add texture, color, and a touch of history to your space.

Divine Doors

If there's one way to add a big impact to a space, it's through interesting, architecturally pleasing doors. They act as an extension to the architecture in a room adding character and warmth.

Pretty in Pewter

There is definitely a rise in the use of silver-toned metals – especially pewter. At JKD, we’re fans of mixing metals and brass will never lose its lustre with us. Metals that develop a natural patina over time are always appealing.

Cool Collectibles

We’ve been touting cool collectibles since our infancy so in our minds, this isn't really a trend; it’s woven into our tagline 'Contemporary With Character'. The idea of filling our homes with vintage lighting, antiques, and upcycled one-of-a-kind pieces is growing in popularity as consumers and designers are increasingly conscious of sustainable living and collecting.

And of course the best trend of all? Filling your home with the people and things YOU love the most!

Thank-you for cotinuing to follow along. We hope we've inspired you.
